Punta Rucia is located on the east side of Montecristi and is known for having shallow, clear, serene waters, pure white sand beaches, and some of the most epic countryside mountain views in the Dominican Republic. We'll be spending a couple of nights at Punta Rucia Lodge-- a hotel so photogenic; you won't want to put your camera away.
We loved our laid-back stay at Punta Rucia Lodge and highly recommend you book a stay here! Punta Rucia Lodge is a great place to stay overnight and visit the epic-looking coral islet of Cayo Arena, also known as Paradise Island or Cayo Paraiso.

Arriving at Punta Rucia Lodge
Punta Rucia Lodge is located in Punta Rucia, Dominican Republic, near Monte Cristi. It's about a 2 hr drive from Cabarete, a 4 hr 20 min drive from Santo Domingo, or a 6 hr 30 min drive from Punta Cana. We drove from Cabarete to Punta Rucia, and found the roads challenging with a low car. This area of the Dominican Republic is still very rural, streets are not well paved, and the speed bumps are persistent and high. If you visit here, I recommend renting a jeep; you'll have a better experience. Our Bungalow at Punta Rucia Lodge
Our bungalow (bungalow 3) was chic and minimalist. When comparing this stay to all our previous eco-stays in the Dominican Republic, I have to point out that these rooms have AC, which is highly needed if you're visiting during summer!
Bungalow Spa at Punta Rucia Lodge
I found the setting of this spa to be perfect! Honestly, it was so simple and minimalistic yet so relaxing! You're on the beach in a shaded area, getting a massage or treatments done, while in the background, you're listening to the waves of the ocean.
There's also plenty of outside sitting area to watch the sunset with perhaps a drink in hand; nothing oozes more relaxation vibes than this spot, right here.
Epic Boardwalk at Punta Rucia Lodge
This beachfront hotel features an extensive boardwalk leading to a dreamland viewpoint. The views at Punta Rucia Lodge are simply spectacular, especially at sunset and sunrise. This boutique hotel is so photogenic we found a handful of places to take some of the dreamiest photographs. What makes Punta Rucia Lodge a unique and breathtaking destination is all the natural beauty surrounding it! We found it very polished and stylish without being too pretentious or trying too hard, which we appreciate when traveling. Punta Rucia Lodge is for a person looking to disconnect completely and get lost in a Caribbean Paradise.
Punta Rucia Lodge is perfect for families; the waters are shallow and calm. A few guests were jumping inside the water from the boardwalk, swimming, and just having a great time!
Beach BBQ at Punta Rucia Lodge
We were lucky enough with the timing of our Dominican Republic road trip to visit during the weekend when Punta Rucia Lodge offers a grill-out bbq by the beach for dinner. This was our delicious land and sea platter, grilled to perfection with a view that's out of this world-- I know, I can't stop talking about the magical scenery of this place!
Punta Rucia Lodge Bar and Restaurant
Breakfast is included with your stay at Punta Rucia Lodge, but something to note is that the restaurant is closed for lunch. We recommend walking and taking a trip into town (about a 20 min walk) and eating at one of the local restaurants.
The bar is open all day for drinks! Try anything with rum in it! The Dominican Republic is known for its world-class rums.
There's also a beach front private dining boat you can reserve for a romantic dinner.
